But the official name is Brihadisvara temple. There may be many temples in this world and there may be monasteries but this temple is very special because it has one of the great histories.

Raja Raja Chozha's actual name is Arunmozhi Varman. After he became king, he was nicknamed Rajaraja by the people. The Rajaraja Chola's birth date is not known but he was born in the tenth century. He was the son of Sundara Chola. He is also the grandson of Kandaratithan. He was the greatest king in the history of the Cholas. Rajaraja Chola was more obsessed with spirituality. The great temple of Tanjore is now an expression of that devotion. There are many stories, histories, myths, and superstitions that belong to this temple. All these stories have been told by the people there. Thus the true history of the temple is not known, but the true history of the temple is revealed by the inscriptions found in the 17th century.
This inscription was discovered by an English archaeologist after the arrival of the English in the seventeenth century.

The highlight of the temple is its architecture. The temple was built between the year 1005 and 1010. There was no great technology not even the biggest machines in this period. But the architecture of this temple is quite shocking.

One of the biggest surprises of the temple is the rock. This is because the rock placed in the temple above is the only rock / only stone. Its weight is about 80 tons. Such a large stone, such a heavy stone, was carried to a height of 216 feet without the aid of any large tool at that time.
